tiller crossbar endcaps siezed

Hey folks,

I happened to be moving the tiller crossbar off it's winter storage shelf last weekend and whatever made me do it, I gave an endcap a twist. Except that it didn't twist. Both ends are completely seized, probably from salt.

I gave everything on the hull a good hose rinsing before storage and I do so a few times throughout the year but I could see salt getting up there where a rinse would have no effect. I do keep it down on my shore so it's a salty environment. I tried soaking an end in various fluids but I can not budge it. I'm going to try removing the screw on the end that is removable and try pulling it out but I'm doubtful I can do that if I can't even turn it.

Any advice? I hate to give up but if I need to order a new one, I want to do it soon before sailing season hits.

Post a picture of your end caps. I had to remove rivets to get my end caps off.

I just purchased a used 2010 Wave. Today while giving everthing a closer inspection I noticed that I also have the same problem as the original poster, a tiller crossbar elbow that doesn't swivel. Here are pics of mine. Maybe the same as the original poster. Any suggestions as to how to free it up?

Well DUH! After I made the above post I decided to go have a closer look. It seems one elbow (or end cap) is supposed to swivel and is held into the crossbar with a rivot. The other end does not swivel and is held in with a screw. Same elbow is used at each end of the crossbar. At the non-swivel end the screw goes through the bar 1-1/4" from the end of the bar. At he swivel end the rivot is 1-1/2" from the end.
