Anybody have success with "alternate" materials for Wave seat pads? I was thinking of using Astro turf. Any input or thoughts about pluses or minuses about that? I though it would be great, cheap, and the kids would love it. Thanks for the feedback in advance!

I think Astro Turf would be rough to sit on.

That could be true. I had found some REAL soft "fake grass" real cheap and surprisingly felt like grass. Made me think might be cool looking and a bit different.

If its real cheap it might not wear well and how slippery will it be when wet? I would use stick on rubber sheets designed for water sports. If you really want to try, I suppose you don't have much to lose and can easily replace it if it doesn't work.

I didn't think of the "slip factor". That's a good call. I will see what I can come up with. I will post either way. Thanks for the input guys.

There are ports under the seat pads. They are sealed to prevent leaking. The glue that holds the pad on also helps to seal the port. If you're thinking of some other material for a seat pad replacement you're gonna want to make sure your ports are well sealed and, if it were me, I'd glue some non-permeable material over the port.

I know this is an old thread but curious how you all made out?

I was also looking at this issue and wondering if I can use a dark grey or black YOGA MAT (neoprene ish?) and cut it up. They had thin ones for like 20$ at target and Walmart.

I plan to put a black tramp on and black hobie stickers and push my boat into more of a "black and white" color scheme.

I dislike the turquoise and am not a fan of the light grey they sell.

Also - what do you use to glue them on? Would a tube of RTV Silicone do ok?

Always used contact cement. Holds adequately and the pad can be peeled up without destroying it when the port starts to leak.

I am replacing worn seat pads and also replacing the inspection port covers underneath the seat pads.

I have looked and cannot find explicit answers so....
Can some kind person please give me answers to these two questions:

1. What should I use to seal the inspection ports?
Please give an actual brand name that can be easily purchased.

2. What adhesive should I use to fix down my new seat pads?
Please give an actual brand name that can be easily purchased.

Thanks
Mr.Lurker

3M 5200 or Sikaflex for the port covers. We also use screws these days.

The pads come with adhesive. If you made some or your's do not... contact cement. Paint on the hull and the pad... let tack dry then press the pads into place.

I got replacement pads but now the challenge is getting the old faded blue ones off — they are stuck hard with a capital S. Other than scraping and ripping the pads inch by inch, any ideas on how to easily remove them?

Heat gun and "Goo gone" after will help.

Thanks. I did try Goo Gone with a paint scraper, but it is hard going. I will try the heat gun and try not to melt the boat. :D

Wondering how your yoga mat experiment worked out for you.
