Howdy, I'm a veteran Hobie 14 sailor and I just added a Wave to the stable. So, the pin that goes through the bottom of the mast, kinda under the front of the ball.... Is that pin just to help in stepping the mast or am I sailing with the pin in as well? I keep thinking of it like the hinge you use to step the mast on the 14... So I think I should take it out - but maybe it's supposed to be there all the time.

Also, the rudders look pretty much identical... There's isn't a left and a right is there?

I bought a new Wave in May 2016 and I traded in my old H14. The only problem was I should have done it sooner! I keep the mast pin in all the time as I believe is intended. It does not seem to interfere with mast rotation and will keep the mast in place during a capsize. I have the EZ Loc rudder system and yes the rudders are identical and interchangeable.

Really fun boats aren't they?

Hi, thanks for the info. Yes, I've been out a few times now in the Wave and I'm really enjoying it. Have had only light to moderate winds ... Looking forward to a good windy day. It's been teasing me... Just starting to get the hull to lift, getting some good spray, then the wind would drop back down lol. There's gotta be a blustery day coming soon lol. Thanks again for the info.
