My new Wave is the first Hobie I've had with the two piece CompTip mast. My 14's mast is a solid one-piecer.
When on the trailer I noticed that the two pieces of the Wave's mast slide apart fairly easily. I've never pulled them apart enough to totally separate them into two pieces. Like is the inner sleeve on the mast and gravity the only things that are supposed to be holding it together? No danger in a capsize of them coming apart right? I'm just kinda surprised at the amount of play there.

Don't worry! Standing rigging attached to upper half, so no chance for two halfs to separate under sail.

When trailering use the halyard to hold it together. The hook fastens to the downhaul cleat. Pull tension and tie off.
