I have sailed H16's for years. Currently looking at a used Wave to add to the H16 option. My question is what provides the tension that holds the hulls together tight to the stops on the crossbars. When I looked at the used wave I could pull the hull in/out along the crossbar. It moved so much I think it would not sail well. Does the cable system tighten this? Just looking at it it looked like the cables would only tighten in front/back plain.

Yes the trampoline and the mast rig hold the hulls together. Sailing loads push the crossbars into the lee hull as well.

On the classic, you use the mainsheet purchase to get tension on the trampoline. It pulls the cable which is connected to a 2:1 purchase at the aft end of the cable.

Manual page 6.
