OK. I figured you'd have included something in the hardware kit if needed, but I am pretty paranoid about keeping the mast upright

I added a jib to my Wave this year and that means the small shackle on the mast is pretty full - two side stays, forestay, and jib pigtail. I noticed that when the mast is at center (not rotated) the ends of the side stays are prevented from lining up exactly with the direction of the rest of the stay, so there is an angle formed right as the wire leaves the ferrule. That can't be good. However, as far as I can see when sailing, the mast rotates and the loaded stay is able to straighten. Not sure if I'm explaining it well - I'll try and get a picture. Anyway... I am concerned that this is weakening the shroud at a vulnerable point. Maybe if I replace the Hobie shackle with a bigger one it will solve the problem. Not sure. And a larger shackle will change the adjuster holes I need to use, so that's a pain! Has any other jib user noticed this? Any thoughts on whether it's really an issue? Thanks, Andy |

No need to change the shackle. Never heard it caused a real issue. |

Quote: how easy an install was it The installation was pretty easy. - For the crossbar, I simply removed the front bridle attachments on each hull, added the new tang to one side and reattached it, then slid the bar into place and attached the new tang on the other side. I used some locktite on the screws but I don't know if that's necessary. - The cam cleats were also not bad to install. I loosened the tramp track screws as per the instructions and it all worked out well. It would be easier if you had a second person to help position the cam cleat while you are underneath inserting the bolts but I was able to do it alone with a bit of trial and error. Some of the tramp track screws were a bit hard to undo but I used small 1/4" drive ratchet with a Phillips head bit and that helped because I could apply pressure to keep the bit in the screw head while turning the ratchet to break them loose. I used a standard screwdriver to re-tighten them. - The rest is easy stuff and I just followed the instructions. Quote: was it worth the cost? Really hard to say. I like having it, so it was worth it to me. I wanted it for a couple of reasons... 1) we are moving onto sailing bigger boats so having a jib on the Wave was supposed to be a training aid for my wife, 2) we have trouble tacking when there is a lot of chop on one of the local bays and I think backing the jib helps with this. If you didn't have those two needs, I'm not sure. It's certainly got some limitations, but Hobie says upfront that it's designed more as a training aid than a performance sail. |

Jib is installed but very crowded up front with # of cleats and lines. Any recommendation on keeping them from hanging up on every tack? Thanks |

Triangle of bungee. Anchored on either side of the mast. Up to or above the cleat. Maybe just one down the front might work. |

Do what he said Run a bungee from the mask where you tie the rigging line to then to the front tramp corner. Works perfect Just remember to place your lines above the bungee. as I forgot in a heavy wind and it wasn't fun to fix Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk |
