Post subject:  Trampoline tightening fix Hobie Classic

I came up with a fix for my incredibly saggy Hobie Classic tramp. I purchased two 5' lengths of 3/8" solid aluminum rods at the local Ace hardware ($20 total). I disassembled the boat and removed the four velcro straps used to hold the tramp to the rear crossbar. I then inserted the stern portion of the tramp with the 3/8" fiberglass rod, into the aluminum extrusion within the rear cross bar.

I put the boat back together and with the tramp loose, inserted the aluminum rods into the PVC tubes along side the tensioning cables, sliding the aluminum rod into each of the trampoline anchors as it is inserted. Side one goes in very easy, side two will require help to pull the tramp tight enough to slide the second aluminum rod in place. The tension cable is now only used to tension the tramp from bow to stern and is not needed to hold the tramp against the hulls.

The tramp is not completely snug. Obviously you will loose your ability to quickly disassemble the Wave but in my case where the tramp was impossible to get rid of the sag without this fix. While the aluminum rods work fine, I would suggest looking for 3/8" fiberglass rods as an alternative to the aluminum.

Here are some images that show the process:
