Post subject:  Sleeve caved into the hull

Hi,

I got following problem (see photo below): sleeve that holds rear crossbar in starboard hull caved into the hull and seems to be leaning on the foam instead of polyethylen, which looks bent/destroyed. Do I have any option other than buying a new hull? Picture:

Thanks!

They vary a bit and some are in a little. You sure this has actually moved? Failure here is so rare that I don't recall any.

Sleeve not only in it also down :( (more pictures):

This is how it looks with crossbar inserted:

I suspect the boat was hit when it was in storage couple years ago. I already replace the port hull because of that (sleeve on that hul kept pushing out), so yes, it not a typical issue from wear an tear.

I tried to push it back using crossbar as a leverage, but in wasn't able to.

Thanks for the help and any ideas how to deal with it!

Not sure on this one. The real strength comes from the area the crossbar enters and exits. This is shear loaded. Wonder if you used some DP 8010 (or similar) inside to fill and bond the inner hull to this sleeve? Not sure, but the skin inside is linear polyethylene and may attach well. It would require a hatch in the transom area deck for access. It could be worth a shot.

Thanks, will give it a try!

I would look into a mechanical fix. Possibly running some all thread parallel with the sleeve through the hull in 2,3, or 4 places and pulling the hull together. Use stainless and lock nuts with large washers and should be good to go.

After 3 sails in different condition I could confirm that fix with DP 8010 is working. Thanks Matt!
