| Post subject: | Stay and Bridle Replacement |
Greetings from Lake Champlain, VT. Inherited 94 or 95 Wave from my father and have really been enjoying it. We used to sail it in the ocean at North Myrtle Beach so its been through a lot and still tickin'. Got inspired today by two little foilers that were out in 17-18 mph winds and went out solo to check them out. Got pitched by a wave right after a tack, broke one bridle and one stay when the mast hit the water (or maybe they broke first!) This would seem to indicate that they ought to be replaced every so often. Ordered new ones today--but wondering about the frequency of replacements. and also thinking I should repalce them all... Any guidance on how often to replace? Thank you all! |

I would say every 5 years or so, but really depends on how much use. |

Thank you for that response. I saw a few other posts about 'upgrading' the all of standing rigging on a classic to heavier club version with more adjustment. The only issue I see is that my shroud anchor plates on have a slotted hole where the clevis pin would go. Doesn't seem like a good idea to try and replace the anchor plates-- could I drill to make the hole at the top of the slot large enough for 1/4" clevis pin. Or better to just stay with classic shrouds? |
