Hi all,

I am going to look at a used Wave tomorrow and am hoping to get some direction from the forum community in terms of things to look for concerning the quality of the boat. Obvious things, such as:

1) Condition of the hulls (void of holes, cracks, scratches, etc.)

2) Condition of sail and trampoline (void of holes, tears, etc.)

I can imagine. A few questions for you all:

1) Anything I should check that would not be readily obvious to a newcomer?
2) Any components that typically wear (that are also expensive to replace)?
3) Any components that are often replaced with lower quality after market parts?
4) Any parts that are potentially missing that are not obvious?

Other suggestions are appreciated too.

Best,

Dan

This is not really a quality issue but more of an awareness thing, and it relates to a minor change that took place, I think around 2004 or so?

Early boats had the older style rudders and longer tiller arms so that the tiller crossbar is positioned in front of the main sheet attachment if I recall.

I have a later boat with the EZ Lock rudders and the shorter tiller arms with the tiller crossbar behind the main sheet attachment.

Some prefer the older rudders with metal castings as being more adjustable. I've been happy with my EZ Lock rudders - minimal maintenance and simplicity. I think the rudder change happened in tandem with a similar change on the Getaway.

I'm not sure if the different rudder types are interchangeable - so you may want to check which version of the boat you're looking at.
