Post subject:  New owner of '97 wave classic - Need Help Please

I am a new owner of a 1997 wave classic and I know it is missing parts: halyard, tiller crossbar and connectors, blocks and I am sure more as I go through it.

My first question (of probably many) is: There is crack on the bow where the bridle connects. It looks like they drilled a couple holes to stop the propagation. Is this repairable? I think I read something that there used to be a strap available for it? If so what is it like, still for sale? If not anyone have a pic, that I could try to fabricate? If it is not repairable I will cut my losses now before buying the missing parts.

Second: The wave sat for many moons in the previous owners backyard. Any good suggestion on how to remove the iron stains?

Third: Assuming the bridle connection is not too concerning, is it reasonable to pick up an old H14 and use that block and tiller crossbar and connections? If the crossbar is too long, I have a fab shop that could easily shorten it.

Fourth: I also see there are halyards with a hook and others with a shackle, is there a reason one is better than the other?

The sails and tramp look they are brand new. Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance and looking forward to enjoying this with my kids

Brad

OK, I found this thread describing the bow insert retrofit. Does it matter if the strap is aluminum or stainless? Aluminum would be easier for me to form, and would put a nylon washer between aluminum and stainless to prevent the galvanic corrosion.

Either could work. Stainless would be strongest of course.
