Post subject:  cracks on hull

i'm looking at buying a 2000 wave for $1500 but there is some damage. it has about a 3in. crack on the top of the starboard hull where the vaka goes into the hull it parallels the vaka. there are 2 large bolts going through stainless steel plates that sandwich the hull about 2-3in. below the rudder and a 4.5in. crack above the rudder. the guy says it's normal wear and tear. i don't believe him. i believe it has been dropped to cause such damage.
are these deal breakers? how much would a replacement hull cost? there are 2 other waves for sale locally at $3400 each and another one had been sold for $2700. is this $1500 boat worth buying? it's in good shape otherwise. there are also several 16's for sale between $800-$1200 that are in decent to good shape. i've only sailed 6 times on a rented wave, that is the extent of my sailing experience. thanks for any advice.

Cracks in the hull are not normal wear. I would stay away from that one.

Replacement hulls run $1,075.00

thanks for the quick reply. i'm runnin' away from that one. does anybody have any thoughts on a hobie 16 for a newbie? i'd generally sail in the indian river lagoon, banana river lagoon or maybe even in the mosquito lagoon on the east coast of central florida. the open ocean is a little bit intimidating but maybe sometime, who knows....
i'll start reading hobie 16 forum to get a head start. any input is appreciated.

Nothing wrong with a Hobie 16 as a first boat. Thousands of new sailors started on them.
