I bought my Wave used and it had been mast-up in the hot and rainy Florida sun for over a year. When I lowered the mast it was absolutely full of water. It nearly killed me when it fell as it was too heavy to lower with any control. Today I pulled the two mast halves apart and found that the foam plug in the top of the lower section was completely "dried out" and it had shrunk away from the walls. I easily pushed a bent wire past it and yanked it out. It completely crumbled in my hand and cannot be reused. Where can I get another one? It's not in the parts catalogue. Any ideas for a suitable material for me to make my own? It would have to be a nearly perfect fit so I could seal it with 5200. I had a photo but can't upload it. I can only link an address if it were hosted on some other server (which it's not). |

Pool noodles have a hole in the middle. I could cut the noodle sideways to yield a curved sheet and maybe use several layers. Pool noodles dry out and turn to powder, although that may be caused by UV in the sunlight. This will be inside a dark mast. I am hoping to come across some closed cell foam block about 3 inches thick but have not found any in my cluttered garage. Some packing foams come to mind, just not styrofoam that might dry out. Any ideas? Matt, does Hobie sell replacement plugs? |

dparker wrote: Any ideas? Matt, does Hobie sell replacement plugs? The mast is a Hobie 14 section and pylon for both H14 and 16, so the plug is #10060000. Put sealant in the mast then slide in the plug. Seal the entire top surface and edges with more sealant. Best to use Sikaflex or 3M 5200 |

Thanks, Matt! Woo Hoo! Just what I needed! You ought to put that part on the Wave list since with the 2-part mast the Wave plug sees the outside world more often than a H14 or H16. Now I can just go to Andy at Tackle Shack and get the part. Much easier than making my own. And I'm still class legal for racing. |
