I use this when fishing for Aku (skip jack tuna). For many fish a bait (fly, small squid mold, etc) when repeatedly jerked while trolling, catches more then if trolled at a steady speed.

I rigged a line from the stbd Mirage Drive pedal through a guide on a bamboo pole (bungied to rear yaku on my AI) , and attached a clothespin release. Let your lure out to 100 feet, or whatever you need to not scare off targeted fish. Then attach your rod line to clothespin. ( Stretch the bungie a bit if you need to pull the bamboo pole in to do this.)

Although I didn't catch the complete extremity of motion, compare the two photos and you will note the clothes pin has moved. Typical travel is around a foot.

This leaves your hands free for other things while your lure is imparted a better motion for inducing strikes.

It works well with a Sidekick yaku also, but you probably don't even need an ama rig to utilize the inherent motion of the Mirage drive.

A-Dan,

Nice rig (at least I can understand it!)

Just curious. Are you sail powered also (looks like light winds), or only Mirage?

It's an AI ama your seeing.

For those pics IIRC sail was furled due to lack of wind (as you noticed)

If I'm under sail, however, I'll just pedal a bit now and then to keep lure active.

Or pedal continuously when I hit school of aku. Might furl sail in those circumstances also, as one thing less to worry about iwhen I hook up.

Yeah thats great, I'm going to try that. I already have a half round fitting on the ama, but I guess the pole makes it easy to bring in the clothes peg.
