Post subject:  River Mud
I've been toying with buying an Adventure but just haven't made the commitment yet. I have a question though regarding mud in the mirage drive. This past Saturday, May 13th, was opening day in Manitoba and we went down the Souris River in our Grummon canoes. The fishing was good but the lower portion of the river bank was covered in slick grey mud (the water level had dropped). As we made our way down stream we stopped a couple of times to cast and have lunch. I started thinking that the river mud might interfere with the Mirage drive. The mud in question is like liquid clay, it gets everywhere and sticks to everything. What is the status of the Mirage Drive's performance in real muddy conditions? :?:

Mud in the system? You are talking after beaching right... not just very shallow water. The drives are "self cleaning". Mud would just rinse off as it moves through its cycles. Sand, grit, seaweed all shed right off as you pedal.

Yes that's correct I meant when we pull up on shore for a while. The mud will stick to your boots and makes a real mess in the canoe. I wondered if it would work it's way in to a bearing (if there is such a thing) or some other place and cause wear. I would have to take the drive out for shallow rapid areas and paddle.

Should not be a problem. Just using the system will clean it. Sand a grit don't seem to cause much issue. The worst I have seen is small pebbles getting stuck in the chain. If they don't fall out, they could wear the sprockets.
