28th of Dec. a few of us upper Gulf Coast kayakers hit Rollover BTB(Beyond the Breakers) to fish for bull reds. This time of year the Sharks, Kings, Jacks and Smacks have gone South for the winter. One nice thing, though, the gafftops and hardheads (those pesky trash fish) quit biting in these 50° waters.

It started out as a good water day:

Sheriff_John was first to land a bull red(he caught the first and last fish of the day).

Next btbrich started catching one bull red after another:

Then Wolfman started catching his share of bull reds.............putting a mullet head to good use:

Btbrich lands another :

Although we fish in 6', 13' and 10' water, the most fish were caught in 10' depth..................and although the above pic show a bull red caught on a mullet head, that was the only one caught on a head....................the rest were caught on tails. Two of us, also, fished with crabs and didn't get a hit on them.

I sat out there and watched these paddlers catch one fish after another while I lost 5 fish for freakish reasons(broken line, eVolve motor entangles, having a fish for 4 minutes come undone..........etc.) I was beginning to think I was going to get skunked....................then at 1:30 pm I finally hook up and land one.

Four fishermen and 17 bull reds caught.............a decent day!

It was a good day to end the year..................the best of fishing friends and a few fish caught!!!

Hope everyone has a great 2012!!

Nice fish. One of these days I'm taking the wife and doing some Gulf Coast fishing.
