Anyone using the RAM Light Speed mount? On most of the pictures of other Hobie rigged kayaks, I've seen mostly tube style rod holders for the front. I Believe this is due to the Proximity of the Mirage Drive pedals to the rod holder. The typical Scotty holder puts the butt of the rod in the way of either the molded in foot placements or the drive system.
I'm new at this, so I could use some insight.
Thanks.

The RAM tubes are very functional, but I had similar concerns and curiosities, so I opted for an innovative option I explained in detail on my blog....

Time to Get in Gear

With the GearTrac, you can use other traditional rod holders from Scotty, RAM, Cannon, Talon, Atwood, Berkley, etc.

I opted for the RAM 2007 rod holders and simply used the flexibility that the RAM ball mounts afford you, and I pushed the RAM 2007 rod holders outwards slightly to the port or starboard sides. Doing this allows the rod holder to be closer to me (ie: more usable and secure) yet still out of the way of the Mirage Drive.

Hope that helps give you some other ideas.

Thanks. I see your point. Sometimes you want the accesories/holders mounted forward to make way for paddling; sometimes you want them closer for obvious reasons when pedaling. I think I'll go with the track as well.
Are all the RAM mounts the standard 1" ball?
Thanks.

The rod holders are 1.5" while the FF mounts can be either. You can order the rod holders from Hook1 but I got all of the YakAttack items from the YakAttack site directly.
