Hey guys/gals, setting up my Hobie inflatable is-12 for trolling, lakes. Anyone out there wishing they had gotten a 5 inch display instead of the 3.5 inch :( , thats the Garmin 300c or 500c. Either will fit on the 10inch mad frog board. the 300c is 6ozs lighter than the 500c. The 500c is 6 inches wide.

So any thoughts on 3.5 inch vs 5inch color screens? This will be for high sierra clear lakes. The obvious 5 inch will give you the bigger picture.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

Thanks,

I have outfitted all of my boats recently with the Garmin Echo 300. It's a fine unit at any price.

I have a 5" unit (HB not Garmin) and I really like the larger screen. First you have a much longer visual history. I don't need to look at the screen nearly as often as with a narrower screen. Second, split screens are still big enough to read and be useful. Third, I can add a bunch of measurement boxes to the screen ( temp, speed, position, etc) without covering too much of the screen. I know a lot of folks with 3" units who wish they had the 5". I don't know anyone with a 5" who wishes they had a 3". If you can go to a local store and play with the simulators. Stand the same distance you would in your kayak and then decide. A 3" may be perfect for you.
