Post subject:  GoPro mounting questions....

I've got a new GoPro hero 2 that I'm gonna start taking on the PA. I've got the panfish mounts, both tall and short and can mount these several places in the boat.

My question is how do some of you mount or "wear" the GoPro when out of the boat? I frequently beach the PA14 and get out to wade fish. I'd like to attach the camera to my body, on fly vest or belt or something. I'm not real big on wearing the weight of the camera on my head with the elastic head band or hat mount.

Any ideas?
Jeff

I don't fish, but I've seen some cool fishing videos with the chest mount for the GoPro. Try searching on YouTube for "Fishing Chest Mount GoPro" You'll see some videos, and be able to tell if that's a perspective that you're looking for.

There is a Hobie Pro in Florida named Brandon Barton (BBarton). He has several videos on UTube and one about the GoPro Camera. I've pasted it below and he has a second one about his rigging and it is pretty thorough. Good Luck!

Jeff, you stated that you are not big on wearing the weight of the camera on your head with the elastic head band or hat mount. Have you tried it? If you have never done it you should give it a chance. I have found that it is easier to follow the action with the camera on your forehead. It makes perfect sense since you are always going to be looking in the direction where the action is.

Now, I have the Hero3 and it is a bit smaller so you would have to try it out to see if the weight of the H2 becomes a real problem for you.

Get out there and try different things. That's the only way you are going to find what works best for you.

I tried the headband while playing frisbee with my dog, but not on the water yet. I'll give it a shot.
I might be able to use the belt mount that came with it and make my own length strap and Velcro it to a shoulder mount on a vest. I'll check out those videos.
Thanks
Jeff

brandon and i have the same 'monopod' mount. its cheap and easy. it give you an overhead or off the side view of the whole cockpit. my son has switched his up and can put it in a scotty rod holder and he a full view/overhead view from the front of the cockpit as well.

takes about 10 minutes to build the whole thing, and it costs like 15 bucks.

cheers.

Hey Jeff,
I have also been thinking about the same thing. I currently use the GoPro H3 on a pole mount to a Ram ball and Yakattack track mount.

With the pole: you will get quite a lot of sound transmitted up the pole from the kayak. You hear every bang from the pedals or paddle, clunk as you pick up a rod from the rod holder, bump and any sound through the kayak, kind of like you are bumping around inside a big plastic box.

I will still continue to use the pole mount but also intend to bea able to utilise the GoPro quick disconnect mount clip and swap from pole, to chest strap or head strap mount.

See the pole mount behind in the photo.

I hadn't thought about the sound traveling up the pole. And from the little bit i have played with it, the full waterproof case doesn't let much sound in at all, so the only sound from a fishing trip might be all clunking and banging.....

Gonna try my own strapping to get it on my PFD or fly fishing vest or pack.

thanks for the input.
Jeff
