I am interested in learning how to fish newport harbor. I have fished newport and long beach. I have done OK catching small 1 to 2 pounds. I would like to catch some bigger fish 10 to 50 pounds. I have an adventure at newport, any ideas??

Thanks,

NPB Steve

I would say you have to go off shore.

Check with some of the So. Cal. yak sites:

You will probably have to go out the breakwater, offshore Corona Del Mar to get bigger edible fish.
The sand & calico bass are usually near the rocky bottom shoreline.
I fish off Dana Point just south of Newport Beach, CA.
We have been catching halibut just inside the breakwater but the bass, bonita, barracuda are outside the harbor, near the point buoy up to South Laguna Beach has been good all summer.
You may want to time going in and out of Newport Harbor with the tides.
A lot of water runs through the narrow channel with the tide, I wouldn't want to fight an ebb tide coming in after a long day (even with the mirage drive.)
