| Post subject: | To leash or not to leash that is the question!! |
Upon getting my adventure and in preparation for my first fishing trip and being rather fond of my assorted rods and reels, I decided it would be prudent to purchase some leashes (sorry do-it-yourselfers but the scotty leashes are pretty cool). So carefully, I began preparations for my first trip, strategically laying out all of my equipment. Then slowly I added all of my equipment to the yak, each rod perfectly leashed everything in packs and attached. Now to digress a bit, part of my careful preparations were due to a story of a fellow yaker that lost equipment on his very first trip. Now being the smart guy I am I figured I could learn from his experience. So after completing my careful prepartions double checking to make sure everything was secure I slowly maneuvered my adventure down to the dock where I located a vacant slip. I then placed the Mirage Drive on the bottom of the yak. I was gently putting the yak in the water when a sudden twist and off lept the Mirage Drive to bottom of the briny deep? In a trice I was in the water, full clothed, finger tips dancing off the of the drive but no! Denied. Fortunately in this case the briny deep was only about 15 feet. So after an hour of searching the marina and 30 bucks later a kindly a hull cleaner came to the rescue and located my drive. So the question, to leash or not to leash, your drive?? NPBSteve |

Steve, It runs $400+ to replace that drive. Your damn right I would leash it. I wouldn't put the kayak in 1/8" of water without that drive being leashed. There are several posts here in the forums covering this subject complete with pictures. Robert |
