Is replacing the current rudder on the Revo 11 worth the effort?

Definitely...you can almost spin standing still.

Thanks, Joel

I have a PA and a PA12 but I have a Revo 11 on order. I trailer the first two which are awesome fishing machines, but need something for local Colorado lakes I can just set in the back of the pickup and go for a couple hours.

Any other advice on rigging the Revo?

Turbo fins are like going from a 6 cylinder to an 8. We have a 1 1/2" ram mount ball on both sides just in front of the rudder draw handles for fishfinder and rod holder when fishing.

Turbo fins and sailing rudder make for a faster and more nimble Revo11 experience.
Two things you will notice though:
1. its still not handsfree steering, you will still need to keep your hand on the rudder to make small corrections here and there.
2. you will definitely need to cleat the rudder-down line to keep the rudder deployed.

Thanks, All,

I am not considered very mechanical, so, Old Salt, where and how do you "cleat" the sail rudder to keep it deployed?

do you recall seeing this piece on the right side of your cockpit?

When you pull the down line, slip the line into that holder, that will keep the rudder down throughout normal operation. Just remember to pull it out and raise the rudder before you land on the beach!

Thanks. That didn't exist on my old model Sports or Outbacks, nor on my PAs. Have not taken delivery on the new Revo11 yet so will look for it. Thanks!

If you ever need some thoughts or directions on Colorado fishing, drop a line.

My 2013 Revo11 and Outback have this cleat, but I think you're right that the older sport model didn't have it.

BTW: I love Colorado man, but only in the summer
So far the rainbow trout there have eluded me; I think my Florida saltwater experience just isnt compatible for fishing in your area

Pembroke Pines (South Florida): I fish offshore from Dania Beach and the Ft Lauderdale/Pompano area, and when the waves are too much I fish inshore anywhere in Biscayne Bay.

I have a 13' Revolution with the turbo fins. It turns quite quickly with the standard rudder. I haven't tried a 13' Revolution with the sailing rudder. If you aren't sailing a Revolution, is there any need or advantage for switching to a sailing rudder?

pmmpete, it turns quicker with the sailing rudder, but as you have observed its not a "must". I did it as a package with the turbo fins.

My first Hobie was an Outback......if you use a down rigger, the sailing rudder upgrade made a huge improvement in tracking....the deeper my down rigger weight went, the greater the "crab angle" on the side the down rigger weight was deployed became.....once I installed the sailing rudder, I did not have any more issues maintaining the course I wanted to maintain.
Since the Revolution and Outback are within 18" in length, the sailing rudder performance would be very similar.
