The new seat looks much more comfortable than the old-thinking about getting a new Revo. Does the new seat effect stability much when fishing-especially when you have larger fish like tarpon on the line?
best and thanks for your insights

Virtually the same height as the older seats when in the low position. Same stability.

So I sold my 2004 Outback and want to replace it with another Outback. I know Matt said the new Vantage seat is “Virtually the same height as the older seats when in the low position. Same stability”, but in every picture and video I’ve seen, it appears the new seat in the 2015+ models sit higher than my 2004. Has anyone here had BOTH a 2004 era Outback and a 2015+ Outback and compared seat heights? I use my kayak 90% of the time in the ocean and will not sacrifice the safety of a lower center of gravity. My 2004 had the OEM Hobie seat and I used a Crack of Dawn air cushion that added about a ¼” to the ride height. I would be on the water as long as 8 hours without any issues with the seat.
I’m unable to test peddle a new one since I’m recovering from shoulder surgery and don’t want to pass up a deal on a 2014 model if one comes along.
Has anyone successfully fitted a standard (non-lawnchair type) kayak seat into a 2015+ Outback?

with the lawn chair removed, there will be two brackets and a bar left behind. the bar goes across the yak which will need to be removed (if even possible) before putting in an old style seat in place.

If you prefer the old-style nylon seats, you can save money by shopping for a pre-2015 kayak with the old-style seat, because there appear to be pretty good percentage of Hobie owners who find the old-style seats uncomfortable, or who want to have the latest thing, and want to sell their pre-2015 Hobie and get a Hobie with the Vantage seat.

I don't have any problem with the old-style seats, and can do long day after long day in my 2014 Revolution with no discomfort. When kayakers complain about the old-style seats, I wonder if they unfortunately have back problems and will also find the Vantage seat uncomfortable.

I have a 2008 Revolution I bought new and can usually only get about 4 hours before my back starts to ache even with an extra pad in the seat. I also don't like having to adjust the straps often.

I also have a 2015 Outback with the new seat and I have no problem staying out for much longer. I much prefer the new seat even though it is noisy.

Interesting. I have major low back problems. I can't even wash my car without being in pain for hours afterwards, but my 2004 Outback seat gave me no issues whatsoever. My low back was supported nicely.

Each of you is using a different version of the Hobie seat.

Until 2007 models, Hobie used a flat back seat with broad, high back support. This was an excellent seat, but there was a bad batch that had aluminum staves instead of fiberglass. There were complaints but by the time Hobie recognized and corrected the problem, a new seat had been designed. This is my favorite seat (combined with the i-comfort seat described below) and I use it exclusively (bought some spares after production ceased).

2007 to 2009 models (version #2) is easily identified by being thicker and having a permanently inflated lumbar support. IMO this seat was the worst of all the designs -- poor back support, mandatory lumbar bulge!

2010 to 2014 models (version #3) was a great improvement over the previous version -- broader shoulder support higher up and a collapsible lumbar (air filled).

All of these versions had a small common problem for some of us -- the seat bottom could give you an achy butt after awhile. The (optional) i-comfort seat pad (introduced in 2008) is an excellent solution and well worth its price.

2015 models to current the Vantage chair seat seems to be very popular with most users. it's great number of adjustments (back, seat and lumbar), height adjustment and camp chair versatility mark a new era in seat design that can accommodate lots of shapes and sizes of users. 8)

I have an 2006 adventure and a revo 16, so same hull different seat. sitting in both and placing paddle across lap and measuring distance to ground to give height comparison gives the revo with new seat approx just over 1 inch higher.

On water it feels a little tippier especially when reaching holders behind. Maybe less of an issue with revo 13. Big advantage is it is easier to shift your butt from side to side, making it easier to 'edge' into waves, a big help in following swells. In short it changes the handling considerably, less primary but more ability to utilize secondary. It is less forgiving but you can "ride" it better with practice and paying attention.

I just upgraded from a 2014 to a 2015 Revo 13ft....for me the new Vantage seat is a major improvement.
My butt would kill me after an hour or so, and I always ended up sliding down in the 2014.
The new seat has solved both problems. No pain at all after hours of fishing, and I don't need to "slide" back up every 20 minutes like I used to. It works much better for me.....

I've only used the seat on the low setting and feel no difference as far as stability goes. The high setting might be a different story. I'll try that out when I'm on a lake in July, not in the ocean.

I broke my tail bone a few years ago and get back pain a lot when Hobie came out with the new seats I sold my older kayak for a new one as fast as possible. Love it. I don't have problems with it making noise but if it did I wouldn't care one bit. If you twisted my arm for me to make a complaint I would say sitting side saddle with legs in the water isn't comfortable but that's a dumb complaint anyway.

Have any of you guys found a way to quiet the vantage seats? I remember a guy actually using some form of lubrication on a PA vantage seat to help with that....

I use Ace Pure silicone spray lubricant on the seat back and bottom.

As a precaution, I put some old newspaper under the seat and behind the back to prevent spraying anything else.

Use a liberal amount of spray, wait overnight and then rub the surfaces with a towel or rag before you use the seat again.

I can't say that I've noticed any noise from my Vantage.....guess I'll have to pay closer attention next time out..

At some point, the mesh starts to "squeak" as you pedal and its very annoying if you are fishing :o
