I got a hatch liner about a month after getting my Outback. Finally getting around to installing a Hook 5 and thought I'd avoid any problems or custom rigging by forking over the big bucks for the Hobie kit. But of course there is a major interference issue between the battery mount and the hatch liner. Tried to search for some common preferred solution but got nothing. Did I just waste half of my money for a kit that I now have to rig up something instead of using this key part (mount frame), or sacrifice the storage in the liner?

And why in the world did Hobie do this to begin with? Is this why the Outback doesn't come with a liner as standard equipment? In that this give Hobie an "out" by saying you shouldn't buy both."?

Well I rotated it to the left side after attaching it. That gets it mostly out of the way. Had to trim the tab at the bottom of the frame to keep from putting most of the weight on a 3/4" part of the hull. But there is still a slight interference with the liner. I can get the hatch to close, but I hate the fact that the liner is pushing down against the battery frame.

In my revo the battery mount is just slightly in the way. There is just a small indent in the liner where it hits the battery/mount. I guess if I turned it 180 degrees it would be totally out of the way but I'd then have to be a contortionist to get the battery in place.

If you plan to use a hatch liner in the front cargo hatch, I'd recommend mounting the battery holder in the frame of one of the 8" hatches...either in the center of the cockpit or the one in the rear cargo area. I've also turned the battery mount 180 degrees when mounted on the sail mast, but I agree with you that it's not the easiest thing getting the battery in and out of the yak.

Since the liners are thermoformed... could you customize the liner to fit around the battery? Would require heat and pressure to create a "dent" to fit around the battery?
