Post subject:  essential accessories for Hobie Outback

I have narrowed down my kayak search and I am going to purchase a 2018 Hobie Mirage Outback Camo edition soon. I will be using the yak to fish fresh water lakes/rivers and will also fish in the Gulf of Mexico. What are some essential fishing accessories that I should look at purchasing?

Thanks for feedback!

I'm pretty new to kayaking and fishing from a kayak, but I have a 2017 Hobie Outback, so I can tell you from my experience that I love the rectangular hatch upgrade I had my dealer install as part of the deal. The rectangular hatch replaces the round hatch in front of the seat. You can also purchase the drop in tackle bucket, which holds a few plano boxes or other small odds and ends. It makes life much easier, and I can get to my tackle real easily without moving from my seated position. The camo edition comes with the sailing rudder, which is the other upgrade I got (I don't have the camo edition, so it was an upgrade). If you end up not getting the camo edition, get the sailing rudder as it makes the kayak turn much better. I am currently using a milk crate, and it works fine for me for storage. I either bring a small cooler or an Engel live bait cooler for live shrimp. I have the Hobie heavy duty cart that plugs into the scupper holes. I've only used it one time when it was a good distance from the parking lot to where I could launch. You'll obviously need a roof rack or trailer to transport the kayak. There are a million accessories you can buy for the Outback, but in all honesty, the kayak is ready to fish from when you buy it. I am loving mine and when I am not out fishing on it, I am thinking about being out fishing on it!

With the Camo Outback, your kayak comes standard with Turbo fins and a Large rudder, so those two didn't make the list, but with any other color Outback they would. Here's my recommended "must have" accessories for your Outback Camo Edition:

80043001 HOBIE TRAX "2-30" PLUG-IN CART (for folling your Outback over any surface, soft or hard)

72020088 HOBIE H-CRATE (for gear storage)
72020097 H-CRATE SOFT COVER (for keeping your gear contained and dry)

OR 72020007 HOBIE LIVEWELL (if you're fishing with live bait)

71707003 TWIST-N-SEAL HATCH KIT, RECTANGULAR
71709001 BUCKET, HOBIE RECTANGULAR HATCH (fits most Hobie Outback hulls)
OR
71708001 HOBIE TACKLE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (fits all Hobie Outback hulls) - holds 2x 72020321 Plano Med Tackle boxes (purchase separately)

2 x 72020014 ROD HOLDER EXTENSION (one each for molded in rod holders behind the seat)

72020117 VANTAGE SEAT ACCESSORY BAG (for more storage)

72020113 FISH BAG/COOLER MEDIUM (for keeping drinks or fish cold)
