Post subject:  Outback Rudder Control Extension arm?

Hey guys - on my Hobie Outback, the rudder control has a small hole that has a metal threaded nut inside. I believe this is for adding the knob assembly(?), however I'm interested in using this to make a rudder control extension bar for when I'm drift fishing in the wind while standing so I don't have to lean down every few casts to adjust the rudder to correct my drift. Picturing a threaded steel rod that threads into this hole, extends 2ft up, then some kind of handle attached to the end of that. This would be something I'd thread on before starting to drift fish, then thread off when I move long distance. Have you guys seen or heard of anything like this done before? Or am I just THAT lazy? :)

Also, looking into drift chutes other than the Hobie branded and curious what sizes you guys use and any preferred brands?

Thanks in advance!

Yes that works. We have a "hiking stick" for Islands that would do just that. It threads into the brass hole in the steering handle.

72020063 HIKING STICK - AI/TI (2.5 foot long) US$ 66.99

It has a flexible "tendon" that allows the stick to bend in any direction.
