Just moved to Pacifica CA (Linda Mar area) and excited to get out on the water! Originally started looking at small boats, but after enough searching around I found that a Hobie Kayak would be the perfect fit (some exercise and no DMV registration!).

My main use would be dropping a couple crab traps on the way out, and some fishing before picking them up. Looks like Hobie has many excellent options for fishing Kayaks, but can't quite put my finger on which would be the best for this use. Leaning towards the Hobie Mirage Compass because of the price point and features. Do you think the compass would be a good choice for offshore crabs and fish?

Thanks!

I have no Compass experience; but FWIW - I started with a Pro Angler for somewhat similar use. Then we added a tandem island and use it almost exclusively now for off-shore. One of the island series would be very capable off-shore and well suited for carrying gear on the tramps.

I do have the compass and while I like the easy handling its certainly not made to carry a lot of stuff around in my eyes.
Those PA's are definitely more roomy, but also very different price point.
