Hi Everyone,

Just looking for input on how I might take some of the H-Rail, and gear track features of the 2019 Outback and retrofit my 2017 Outback (which I just bought 5 weeks ago - demo boat)?

I've only added one mount for my Visi-Pro flag so far, otherwise I've left the boat untouched - especially since I saw the 2019 and started drooling profusely. I probably couldn't afford the difference between my demo boat and a new 2019 anyway, but I'd like to do what I can to make it as usable as I feel Hobie has made the 2019. Obviously I can't do anything about the narrower platform, but I'm really interested in what you think about trying to emulate some of the H-Rail / Gear Tack that exists on the 2019.

Thanks,
dileas

My personal opinion is that form follows function. In other words, you are best finding out from usage what you need on the kayak. Sure, you can bling it out if that is your need, but if you don't need rails with gear slots why bother spending the money and adding them. You can add rails. I think a google search will show a few posts and blogs about adding rails. You can use the Hobie ones or gear tracks from several manufacturers.

There are things you cant recreate obviously. I think you are left with rails and square hatch.

How about simply adding a bottle opener ? :) With enough bottle opening you tend to forget what you don't have. I'm joking, but you have a great kayak. Enjoy!
