My friends Compass has the pro angler type rudder and it is supposed to drop down using gravity or is there a spring that forces it down? We usually have to take a paddle and push it down when he is on the water.

The Compass parts guide shows a torsion spring that is the same P/N as my 2013 PA-14 uses.

Checked the Hobie Compass site on FB. Common problem, when they install the square hatch, is the foam floats inside bind the cable causing the rudder to not drop easily.
