I have recently preordered a 2019 Outback with my only hesitation being that it would not allow dragging without wheels due to the rudder design. I started watching some videos on YouTube and noticed the people with a compass/PA would drag theirs on smooth grassy/sandy surfaces without issue and assumed itd be fine for the Outback with a similar rudder design. Does anyone have any insight about dragging a hobie with this rudder design? I want this kayak for lakes/open water fishing as my Coosa makes it tough to cover much water so I am only talking about dragging it a short distance on smooth grassy/sandy surfaces after being unloaded from the truck. A recent YouTube video had a guy complaining about dragging being his only issue, though he didnt show how he dragged it so he might have been lifting the front for all I know. I plan to have a rope tied to the front in order to keep the boat fairly level while dragging. Thanks for any insight. |

I have done it on grass with no problems so far. I try not to pull "up" on the bow as much as possible and always in a straight line. |

I actually got my kayak Friday so I was able to take it out yesterday and this morning. It seems when flat it has plenty of clearance I'll just have to pay attention if it gets uneven front to back. I did notice when unloading you have to be care if loading stern first into a pickup. At the spot I unload at it was pavement, so I pull the kayak out until I can set the bow on the ground (making sure it didn't slide far enough to rest on the rudder), then keep it stable while making my way to the stern and once I lifted on the rear handle the front slid forward. I found from that single unloading I created a small flat on the upper nose of the bow. Maybe I'll start loading it bow first and just use the unloading block. |
