Post subject:  Hobie Transducer Cover holding sand

Has anybody else had problems with the Hobie Transducer Cover holding sand which makes the Sounder inoperable ?

I launch from several beaches with very find sand which lodges between the transducer and the cover (as per photo).

Sometimes I can clear the sand out on the water by peddling backwards. The other day this didn't work I was out on the water for over 5 hours before it finally cleared.

Would drilling some holes in the cover help ? Any other tips ?

Cheers
Hoit

I have had some success with just pouring water down the scupper hole that the transducer wires come up through. I usually do this at the end of a trip, though, once the yak is up on a rack.

I don't launch from sand but still have debris get in and foul transducer, need to clean periodically. One time even found my folding knife down there after missing it for a couple of months....LOL

I recently saw a guy who had a long narrow piston type of water pump which he used to pump water from next to his kayak to hose things off in his kayak's cockpit. I'm not sure if it was a bilge pump or one of those toys which kids use to squirt each other. You could get something like that and use it to squirt water down into the scupper hole which leads to the transducer pocket, in order to blast sand out of the pocket after you launch from a sandy beach.
