My wish list: A clear 8" Hobie Twist N Seal deck hatch for my Mirage Revolution surf fishing machine. Personally, I like my new toy. I like the clean, uncluttered deck and gunwales to minimize breakoffs, snags, tangles, and bodily injury when dumped. I'm hooked on using a gps/ff for navigation and locating structure. I suppose the cup holder, sail mast, or side mount works for the majority, but I'm 6'4", 260, and frankly, those locations are in my way, soon to be broke off, or out of reach. Electronics mounted under or attached to the center hatch would be the ideal spot. The possibilities are endless...

I second that wholeheartedly. Add in a tray that is open and doesn't have the tackle dividers, and you have a winner. This is an excellent idea.

I did not get it at first...

But an undivided tray I could put a GPS and other assorted gizmos in under a clear hatch cover. When can order? 8)

An alternative might be to have a plastics shop cut a "window" in the hatch and insert a piece of clear Plexiglas window of the appropriate size and location. 8)

I have thought about that. Put the gps/ff in the tray or under in block foam. I have been looking, but unable to find a solution. My concern would be going from a ribbed or reinforced hatch - to a plate. The plate would need to support a 2-300 pounds. In other words, sometimes I sit side saddle, and sometimes stand to sight cast on the hatch. I appreciate your comments.

I think this would work. If you cut out a 4-square section as shown below, and use a 3/8 Plexiglas mounted flush, it would be thick enough to bond to bracing edges for rigid support. With a good bonding agent and a snug fit, you should have enough strength and a usable window.

I doubt you could put any where near 200 - 300 # on that small of surface, or even the entire hatch if you tried. The seat area supporting your weight is a lot thinner and less reinforced than that!

The Gear Bucket is easy to modify -- you could make a custom mount cutting down the panels to suit. Here, I use this cut out for a wallet -- will also fit a spool of fishing line -- you just cut to the depth you want.

A replaceable anti-glare strip over the top would protect the clear surface and minimize glare. Until Hobie comes out with that clear hatch cover, this just might temporarily hold you over (and would be a nice custom mod)! 8)

My dremel is fired up and ready to go. I figure I can take all the dividers out and most likely the U-shaped return that fits around the hatch lock.

When it comes to utilizing the front hatch of the Revolution with a container larger then the tray offered by Hobie please visit the NEKF URL

There I show how I took a $2.79 plastic paint bucket and with a box knife made an container that fits perfectly. Give it a try!

A clear hatch, if made of lucite or similar, would end up scratched and dirty beyond visibility in a very short amount of time. Using glass isn't practical and CZ would be too expensive.

What I'd like to see changed on the Revo are: Real flushmount rod holders in the rear, a gunnel around the tankwell that provides enough room for the inflatable Ama kit AND the Hobie bait tank, room for flushmounts in the front (just in front of the pockets), an alternate pocket cover, preferebly something rigid and hinged, and a color tv.

I'd like to see the Up/down rudder mechanism from the AI in the Revolution.

Also the spring loaded Mirage drive like the inflatables.

A clear hatch would be okay, as long as its not threaded. The tiniest bit of grit or sand will jamb those puppies solid and are a MAJOR pain to open.

I just realized that the hinged, dogged center hatch is the twist and stow hatch. That hatch and the length of the Adventure is what finally got me to write a fat check to Mr Alter's company.

The window insert seems like a good idea. But I'd just as soon just open it to see inside. :D

I still trying to find a suitable clear plastic. Home Depot and Lowes do not have the proper thickness.

I found my Plexiglas in the scrap bin at the local plastics fabrication shop at no charge. Excellent selection for all kinds of projects -- like rudder winglets. Sorry I didn't mention it sooner. 8)
