Today was a great AI sailing and fishing day in NW Florida. The winds and waves were strong and most boats didn't bother going out into it today. Big mistake! The redfish were crushing anything you put in the water. I hooked into at least 8 nice reds but most of them were over the slot size and several broke off before I could get them to the edge of my AI. I had much better luck once I started folding in one ama to keep the fish from bending the rod over the edge of it and breaking the line. The biggest I was able to land and measure was 33" which is now my biggest fish caught by kayak.

To top it all off I had a nice high speed reach all the way back to the boat launch. What a great mix of both sailing and fishing. Thank you Mr. Alter!


This one is the only one I could keep, right at 27".

Mike, You and I have not met but I have been AI fishing out of P'cola for years. I come over your way about once a month because my fishing buddies are in Ft Walton and we visit each others turf to split the driving up.

Let's figure out a way to meet and fish together sometime. I prefer fishing the Gulf particularly in the summer. I have some great offshore spots both here and in Destin area.

I just found out about the tournament (and GCKFA) a few weeks ago and registered so I'll definitely be there. I'll keep my eye out for you. I've been thinking about getting out into the gulf for the past couple of years and I could use some pointers so if you want to go I'm in, just let me know when.
