This morning my buddy Doug and I went offshore looking for the pods of tarpon cruising the beaches, we launched from Sanibel and pedaled the kayaks due west for a mile or so. On the way out we were passing a buoy and Doug noticed a large tail waving in the air on the down current side of the buoy. I made a few casts with a DOA Shrimp and on the third cast I had on a big tripletail. 10 minutes later I was landing my 1st tripletail out of the kayak. The fish weighed in at 11 or so pounds, and was just over 23 inches long. That fish had my rod seriously doubled over! We proceeded to chase tarpon around for the rest of the morning casting at them with DOA Baitbusters. Doug jumped one, I missed a big one right at the kayak and Doug caught a nice blacktip shark. We'll be heading out there again soon, I feel a case of tarpon fever coming over me!
