I'm out in the boonies so the posts here are more infrequent. Coronavirus panic has gripped this area, even with very few cases statewide and none in this county, so that has also made things more difficult. Anyway, here are a lot of kayak fishing photos from the desert southwest.

Image

Image

Been fishing at night because it is the calmest part of the day. Wind has been a major factor. We've had good success fishing at night.

Image

Image

The fishing has been slow due to cold winter river water, but the water is warming up and so is the kayak fishing action.

Image

Image

There are a few hazards to look out for.

Image

Most of the fishing is in the reeds and cattails. A kayak is perfect for this type of fishing.

Image

Image

Kayaks can launch in places boats can't get to.

Image

This is the west, so there is fire.

Image

Weather ranges from calm and sunny to torrential rain, wind and flash flooding.

Image

Image

Great early spring kayak fishing action!

Image

Largemouth bass spawning nest.

Image

I've caught some nice largemouth bass so far this early spring.

Image

Looking forward to leaving the city and coronavirus panic behind for more desert kayak fishing.

I do not have a steady internet connection, so posting to my blog is becoming more difficult due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions. You can check out my blog for more photos and information.

The desert southwest kayak fishing season has come to and end and we are back on the road to the Pacific Northwest. We don't know what the future holds because of the coronavirus pandemic, but if the world is going to end, we will get some kayak fishing in first.

We made it from the PacNW to the desert southwest for our annual kayak fishing for largemouth bass adventure. Just like back home in WA, things are subdued and uncertain, so we try to keep as far away from civilization as possible and limit trips to the store and stuff like that. We've only been here a short time but the weather has been great for kayak fishing.

Image

The largemouth bass fishing has been pretty good and the fish have all been nice fish.

Image

After this 50mph windstorm passes through we'll be back on the river. Who knows what is going to happen, might as well get a little fishing in...

Continuing to avoid civilization and pursue elusive Colorado River largemouth bass. Day or night, if the fish are willing to bite, we're out there.

Challenging fishing, but some nice largemouth bass.

Image

Great night sky viewing of stars and planets. Lots of meteors, some pretty bright.

Image

Caught this largemouth bass about 4AM.

Image

Some light rain and spectacular sunrises.

The late winter/early spring desert wind has put a damper on the Colorado River kayak fishing, but with a little hard work we've been catching fish.

Image

The fishing has been challenging, but a nice largemouth bass like this makes a successful day of winter fishing.

Had a few days of really good kayak fishing for largemouth bass on the Colorado River

Image

Starting before sunrise and lasting until the arms wore out from paddling and yanking in the bass

Image

Image

We caught lots of nice largemouth bass, most probably in the two to five pound range

Image

Image

All those nice largemouth bass looked small compared to this monster that I caught on the way back to the launch. You don't catch a fish like this every day, that's for sure.
