Post subject:  Sailing the Outback - first of the season
Yesterday was the first time I took the Outback out for a sail this season. This is on the local fresh water reservoir, where it seems I can only get in about an hour of sail time before the wind dies.

That looks like fun. I'd like to try it on my revo but I am leary as I've never sailed anything but a toy boat.

With the Sidekicks it's very simple and easy to do. With the Sidekicks, my wife was able to use the sail on her Sport - something others told her couldn't be done!

So I'd imagine it wouldn't be advisable trying without the sidekicks. Well food for thought anyways.

I've done some sailing on the Outback without the Sidekicks, but not on the Sport. With the Outback it can be done so long as the breeze isn't too high. With the Sport - well, your mileage may vary.

I have sailed in northwestern Ontario, Canada, in my SUV Outback every summer for the four years I've owned it. I do not own a set of sidekicks. The lake is 7 miles long, 5 miles wide and has 3 islands in it, so there are lots of obstacles to effect change to the winds. The length of the lake lies East--> West, so the prevailing westerly winds can get a good sweep from end to end. It's a blast !! Last year we were toying with the idea of setting the Hobie (in a yet undertermined manner) on runners to try her ice sailing. I'm a little concerned about the -40*F temperatures on the plastic so she may have to remain a fairer weather sailor ;-)

The sail might be good for ice sailing, even if the hull isn't. I'd cobble something together and make a go of it!

In January, I'll post pictures :roll: Who knows, we might start a whole new Hobie 'thing'!
