I'm looking into getting a Mirage Sport with a sail kit. I weigh about 140lbs, 5'8" so I don't see a real need for a longer boat. My ideal trip goes like this. At the Outer Banks in NC, spend the morning on the ocean side, with the mirage-drive system left on the beach, playing in the surf with the paddle and the boat. In the afternoon, cart the boat over to the sound side, put the mirage drive back in, afix the sail kit, and head out onto the sound for a little bit of sailing and exploring.
I realize I might be better off buying two items -- i.e., a beach-surfable sit-on-top kayak, and then a dedicated sailboat (e.g., Bravo). The problem is, I've got a family's worth of gear to drag to the beach as it is. Ideally, I'd like to just have one craft to "do it all." Is that asking too much? Is that not what the sail kit is designed for?
