I'm installing my new ama kit onto my Outback. I'm all done with the install, but now I discover my side arms fit SO tightly that I can't get either of them in all the way. This isn't good. I moore it in a marina. So I NEED to be able to reach behind myself and pull the starboard one off the boat so I can dock up. I also often have to squeeze between other boats to get to my dock, and so I need to be able to install and remove them both at will while I'm in the boat. My question: Has anyone else found this problem? Should I sand down the plastic ends of the two arms? Or do I have a defective part? |

By ama kit do you mean hobie sidekicks? If so, maybe the metal crosstube got dinged and is oval instead of round. |

Okay, thanks. Yes, its the sidekick ama's. I just bought it brand new from Austin Kayak. I need to let them know, and see if I can get a good one. I was planning to buy a couple more anyway so I could move the sidekicks around between my boats. I'm glad to hear they aren't supposed to be that rediculously tight.  Happy Sailing! |

Yes, I just purchased the sidekick and had the same problem on one of the arms. I sanded down the plastic end that was tight and it works just fine. I have an Oasis Tandum and installed the cross bar behind the front seat. I do a little manuvering from the rear seat and am able to get the side kicks in and out without a problem and get the sail down. Great sailing. |

Mine were tight too, but after a few uses I can now reach back and remove them. I would try working them on and off a few times and see what happens, if they are still to tight then sand them down as also suggested. cheers |

I add a smear of GP grease from time to time which works a treat. Frank |
