Hi my name is SAILMAN, I used to be YAKMAN, but whenever I use one of my kayaks with a sail I am called SAILMAN. Truth be told I rather be yak sailing and hunting down some fish to catch.

My first experience with the AI was in 2008 when I fished for the Hobie Fishing Team. Back then the boat was awesome and preformed great

So how can the new boat be 1000% better. Well over the years, in places just like Hobie forums power users started evolving the kayak. They made custom tramps for the aka's. People invented skirts for the front of the boat to keep the spray down, stop submarining bow and keep you above the waves. There was handle fixes to increase the performance of the rudder. Look back in these forums and you will get a quick history of the AI

Truley the list goes on and the point of the comments is that when I sat down in the new boat, what usually comes to mind in a new kayak, is what am I going to change. Hobie has done such a great job that there really isn't anything to improve upon yet.

I am going to put the electronics on this week and plan to get some miles in the boat

I look forward to meeting other AI owners that want to plan extended trips either long weekends or week long trips. I live in NJ and will travel.

Does anyone know if the mast on the 2012 AI is carbon fiber? I didn't see on the Hobie website any reference to it. It does list the TI as carbon fiber... :?:

I am pretty sure the mast is carbon fibre but I do not have any idea how much CF they have in them (as opposed to another sort of fibre)

To me they appear to be bog standard windsurfer masts: most of which are made of carbon fibre or a mix of CF and other fibres these days and the Hobie masts sure are the right colour.
