Hi All,

I went and bought a sail, sailing rudder, furler kit, and most importantly an AMA kit from Sunstate Hobie. When I got home and tried to install the AMA kit, the side arms that plug into the center tube are VERY difficult to get in. It appears that someone has previously tried to do so (e.g. I have a second hand kit...) as there are significant scuff marks.

The dealer is telling me this is normal and the plastic ends of the arms often require sanding to make them fit, is that true? Did yours require any sanding?

Sell them on ebay and sail without them! :P :P :P Which model of kayak do you have?

(this is probably not what you wanted to hear but I am sure that somebody else will step in soon and give you sound advice on how to go about installing them)

They should fit, but we have seen some that require a light sanding. The extrusion may also have been bent slightly out of round somehow. Either way, sanding the plastic part fixes the issue.

Mine required a bit more than a light sanding...used a wood rasp to take the material down around the circumference, then sanded, then used a light coating of marine grease.
