I currently fish a 2018 Compass in Tampa Bay area. I am interested in the Passport 10.5 due to its lighter weight and smaller length (I car top they kayak on my Crosstrek). I am a former owner of a TI and like to sail on occasions. I know the kayaks sail nothing like an AI or TI, I am interested in sailing my kayak. The 2018 Compass has no sail mount (yes, I know the 2019 does) but am considering the Passport 10.5. I have been searching YouTube and these forums. A few questions I am seeking answers to below before seriously looking at the Passport.

-Will the Passport take the Mirage 180 fins? I have these on my Compass and prefer these for fishing.

-Will the Sidekick Ama accessory work on the Passport? I am concerned about the less robust plastic on the Passport being suitable for the ama accessory

-Can the Passport take the sailing rudder? I am not sure since it is a hand deployed rudder.

-Will the Passport take the Sail Furling Kit?

Just curious on whether or not the sidekick amas, furling kit and sail rudder are compatiable and are they worth the trouble of installing on a Passport 10.5

It is a drive... not just fins, but yes the MD-180 drive will fit.

Yes. Mounting works the same as on a rotomolded hull. No problem.

There is no larger rudder for the Passport

-Will the Passport take the Sail Furling Kit?

Yes.

You could also add the Turbos -- better sailing performance (larger "daggerboard) and speed.

The plastic on the Passport felt very solid to me and should hold the Sidekick as well as the other boats.

The small rudder works well enough in light breezes -- didn't get to try it in heavier winds. If you want more "bite", you can add a winglet.

Matt and RoadRunner,

Thanks for the reply. I this answers many of my questions. RoadRunner, did you make the little wing for the rudder on your own?

Yes. Here's an old "How To". Unfortunately the pics have disappeared.

I used plexiglass. Here are a few random images showing the process.
