Post subject:  Fiberglass repair

I need some feedback please. I just took the covers off my hulls for the spring and found a crack about 3 ft. Long on my outside port hull about 3/8" down from the deck. I fiquire this where Hobie bonded the deck to the hull and I am looking for feedback from somebody that has made this repair. The boat was outside in Annapolis all winter and it is also a 1999 so she has seen some sailing. Any help would be appreciated.

Where is the crack located? Can you post pictures?

My understanding of the H20 hull construction is that after they join the hull and deck, they run a fiberglass tape along the seam, then fair it and gelcoat it to give the seamless construction. Sounds like that fiberglass tape may have let go or perhaps the gelcoat simply flexed and developed a crack.

The only way to know for sure would be to grind back the gelcoat in the vicinity of the crack and give it an inspection.
