From a different post for benefit of those who may not read everything on this forum.

The discussion by Mike (Hammond) was that he has broken M20 blades in the past and would like to use EPO's, AND be class legal.

mmiller wrote:
There is very little difference in the over all profile of the M20 blade from the EPO2. I think, as Mike has found, that the standard blade is a good choice for the 20. The original reason for the different blade was more one of ... making it different rather than any better anyway. We have always had more rudder heads fail on 20s than any other and that has to be related to the small cut out at the lower casting area. I think the class should allow standard blades to be used on the 20.

Comments? Specific to the last line.

John,

You should send your question to Erik Olsen, who is the head of the IHCA Rules Committee.

[email protected]

He lives in Denmark, so don't expect an immediate answer.

Matt,

Thanks for that info.

My personal opinion, or better stated, based on our sailing skills, I can't see it making a significant difference as we have plenty of room for improvement. I'd rather hear the opinions of our more consistent peers but, come to think of it, they don't post here. They're the ones possibly buying new sails and such to get that slight competitive edge. I feel I have no place instigating any proposal for vote that could possibly make an advantage (real or perceived) and the dollar investment associated with it.

Bump

Three votes to allow (plus MMiller) use of EPO's on the 20.

Of interest Mike Hammond has tested the EPO on his boat with good results (his story and original conversation within http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=5298)

CW, I elect you as the person to submit the proposal

I had contacted Erik Olsen with the international class, he received the email and since, I have not heard back. It would have to be discussed by the rules committee, which Doug here is a member of. I'll ask him for an update.

Yea, like I don't have enough to do. Get one of the divison chairs to do it (bev or andy) or both.
I think the EPO and EPO 2 sure as hell would be nice to be able to put on the 20.
Handle it Johnny.

I did it for you guys a while ago - same time I was swapping e-mails with Erik about the 14's flotation blocks.

He said that it is being considered by the Rule Committee.

(Matt - why don't you bug Skiddy about it again - tell him he can ditch that expensive tooling for the 20's rudders!)

They're still considering it - as I recall, some of the manufacturers had some problems with the pool noodle idea (not sure whether it was HCE or HCUS).

Well I hope they come up with something quick! I just cut two big ass holes in the old girl. (what I meant to say is: I hope they come to a favorable conclusion regarding the proposal, because I have cut two inspection port holes in my beloved 1972 Hobie 14 and would like to take the disgusting styrofoam out and replace it with swim noodles)

BETTER??

Thanks for presenting Matt.

I sent these links to Div 3, 5, 7 & 14 chairs couple of days ago.

Do I need to write up a petition for distribution as well? Rather than waiting for the proposal and traditional comment period?
