Post subject:  H20 Daggerboard Dimensions and advice?

Gentlemen and ladies,

I am looking for information about the H20 daggerboards as a possible substitute for my Tornado centerboards.

I am considering the possibility of doing a modification to my old Tornado and turn it into a beach boat so that I can at least operate off of a sandy beach without worrying about the sand getting into the gaskets.

So I was wondering what the dimensions of the H20 are as far as the depth of the daggerboard trunks, and the length of the daggerboards overall on the H20?.

Also, if anyone has any opinions about which boards I should use, and why, then that would be very useful information as well.

Thanks for your help and advice!

We have six classic T's at our Club, and none of them would ever 'beach' their boats.
The skin of the hull structure is soooooo thin, you'd be asking for fibreglass after your 2nd outing.

I suggest that if you want a beach cat...go get one, lots out there.

BTW, the F16's and F18's say the same thing about beaching, its not just Tornado's.

John,

I didn't know that about the F18's, but doesn't it depend on the beach? I can see that if there were any rocks in the mix that putting deep scratches in the hulls could happen. But this boat I have is wood and easily repaired, plus it has about 20 layers of solid fiberglass on the bottom, so it's as tough as any fiberglass boat.

And you didn't answer my question. I need some dimensions so that I can figure out how much daggerbgoard I will have sticking out the bottom of my T hulls. This will determine if a stock Hobie 20 part will work or I have to build some boards from scratch.

There is a very good thread on this site about converting Tiger daggers for the H18, you might find that useful.

There are no H20's around here, so I cannot help you with dimensions.

What I do know is that two years ago, I came close to buying a WildCat (and I should have!)
At the time, the cost of one new WildCat dagger frightened me, at US1,600 each.

Good luck with your endeavours.
