I noticed the original setup uses some pvc pipe and bungee to apply pressure on the outside of the board. What is the purpose of this? To add friction to keep them in the retracted position for downwind? My boat has none of the original system, and my worry is that if I go full turtle I'll loose the boards. Are you guys tying your boards to the boat? Thanks a bunch |

That's exactly it. The pvc or rubber tube holds the boards up. I don't know of anybody who ties their boards to the boat on the 20, but I don't really see why it would hurt anything. The times I've turtled my 20, I haven't had any issues with the boards coming out with that system. That being said, be careful when righting it that the dagger boards don't slip back up while you have your hands or feet on them, it makes for a nasty pinch. |

Everyone uses different diameters/style of tubing. Anything that provides friction will work. I personally have some 1/2" flexible pvc pipe, think flexible water conduit, not rigid white pvc pipe. A lot of people also use clear vinyl tubing. The tube needs to be a little longer the daggerboard is wide, so that the trailing edge of the daggerboard doesn't cut into the shock cord over time. |
