Got an email this morning that says they confirmed the Wild Cat as an F18.
There is a pretty cool pic too.

actually, I was thinking of a scene in Super Troopers. Very funny movie if you haven't seen it. I haven't seen Wierd Science in a very long time. I think I'll have to pick that up the next time I make the mistake of leaving the house before the season changes. |

Looks like the new Hobie Wildcat will soon be making a debut at a major event..the upcoming F18 Worlds in Belgium. Five teams are already registered...two on the Wildcat. From the F18 Worlds website: Teams Number of teams registered at this moment: 5 Belgium : 3 teams Patrick Demesmaeker and Alexander Koopman (Hobie Cat Wildcat) Miguel de Frahan and François van Damme (Cirrus B1) Thierry Bosser and Alain Gramme (Capricorn) International Wildcard : 1 team Carolijn Brouwer and Daan Koene (Hobie Cat Wildcat) Netherlands : 1 team Gunnar Larsen and Stefan Dubbeldam (Nacra Infusion) |

The first international event they will have it at will be eurocat at carnac, at the begining of may. We will see it's worth then. |

Doesn't look like they've got the rudder lock-down system worked out yet - check out the lashings holding the windward rudder down. Other than the hulls and rudders, it looks very "Tiger-ish". |

Matt, Any F18 looks Tiger-ish from the deck up  I'm very interested in seeing how the WC performs against the Caps and the Nacs. The pics and videos of the WC in action are too cool. It's a very beautiful boat. JD and the Hobie Europe crew did a nice job.
WC in my future? Hmmmmm....... JB

The Wild cat has a non slip on the hulls like the Pearl. |

Some of us would really like a shiny new car/BOAT. My Tiger, as much as I still like it, is not a spring chicken. I dream of having a boat with no dents and dings, or fading and with all new fresh rigging. Now how long should I have to wait for that? To get on the over 150 person waiting list for the Wildcat is a looong time. To get an Infusion which still cannot keep up with demand is still quite a wait. I know that I can get a Capricorn relatively quickly and priced competitively. I would not consider any of the other dozen F18s manufactured in the world as there would not be enough support in the US. The F18 North Americans are coming up in my backyard and it would be cool to have a new boat for it. I know that there are some counting on having their Wildcat for the event, how can that possibly happen? My understanding is that there is not one person from the US even on the waiting list. This is good news and bad news though. It is showing a real interest in the class whether you think you are racing One Design or Formula 18 Class. Now I will go and ponder what to buy. Later, Dan |
