I bought a 2000 model Tiger today it needs work but the price was right and I needed a boat because I totalled my H18. I do relize its a generation 1 Tiger but its a huge leap in technology from my 27 year old H18. I will probably be asking allot of questions the next couple of weeks while I get her seaworthy again but Im excited. |

Another new to the Tiger owner here. Time for 20 questions: 1. What is optimal total crew weight for this boat? I know I should have asked this before buying but really, is there a range this boat likes? 2. How much do you dare ease the main when sailing with the chute downwind in 15-18MPH winds with flat water? 3. With STD d'boards, how much are they down sailing downwind? ea. side pls on answer i.e. 8" below the bottom. 4. What modification have you done to your boat that makes the largest gain? more bang for your buck? I don't want to use all my questions right off the bat so I'll keep a few in my back pocket. How much do you dare ease the main when sailing with the chute downwind in 15-18MPH winds with flat water? Do not ease...this is your backstay. Keep it snug but not tight. 3. With STD d'boards, how much are they down sailing downwind? ea. side pls on answer i.e. 8" below the bottom. General rule of thumb...pull them up so the same amount of DB is exposed at the keel and deck. 4. What modification have you done to your boat that makes the largest gain? more bang for your buck? Moved the spin blocks forward and bought a new, flatter cut chute. |

Dan here, I have my new to me, Tiger in the side yard in pieces and have been going over her. I've found under some tape that all the aluminum arms that hold the jib track are all cracked. They look like something from Hobie and not from Harkin (they look like the spreader bars from an early Tiger or Hobie 20). Does anyone know how I can get a hold of replacements? I can't find a parts list for a Tiger anywhere and my Hobie dealer takes Sundays & Mondays off. |

Ok, I'm answering my own question. I looked at Matt Millers link at the top of the forum and found the parts list. Now that I have this info how long would it take to get these 4 pieces? Or would anyone recommend just stopping at my local machine shop and have them make me a set? Thanks,Dan |

We have the short ones in stock - but only 1 x long one (you'd need 2 of ea) So the long post would need to be special ordered from France - could take a bit of time, but I think we have some other items scheduled to come over. Hopefully the new to me Tiger will splash down this Thursday in time for the KYC bulkhead beer can race. Been replacing parts and fixing gelcoat nicks and dings in the hulls and foils, making sure the rudders lock down, boards stay up w/rubberstoppers adjusted correctly, tightening up tramp for the third time and haven't even sailed yet, set spreader rake, diamond tension, mast rake......... |

Second time out on the Tiger and couldn't believe how much higher I can point than on my Hobie 20!! Anyway I hope Mike the previous owner gets on the forum to check out the video. Check out this video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o42kKolg ... ata_player Didn't fly the chute as the puffs were getting up in the 18mph range and the downwind legs were short. We were sailing a ACWS type course with a reaching start and finish. Turns out we didn't need to fly the chute. 3rd, 1st, 1st, 1st. Other news: the new WildCat here in Kaneohe bay, snapped off one of those 7' dagerboards sailing upwind in 18mph winds in flat water. |

Floyd, That was one of our practice races in Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii. Most of what you see is close to the winward side of the bay so the water was flat and not as windy. The opposite side of the bay normally gets 5-10 knots more. We have a big regatta coming up on the 15-16th of September. I'll be racing against several Hobie 20's, one other Tiger, NACRA 6.0NA and a Inter20. on a large AC45 course for Saturday and then a 22 mile long distance race on Sunday with Portsmouth ratings and a LeMans start. Should be fun! If the GoPro works I'll post some vid. Dan |
