Post subject:  Why is the sail bag so skinny?

After a lovely day of sailing I spend way too long fighting with my sail trying to shoehorn it into a sailbag that is too small.

I have to moor my boat while I dissemble the sail as it is too difficult to take it down where I put it on land due to the area being too small and winds too variable. So I am bobbing around during this ordeal.

I single-hand so I have no eager assistant :) to help.

Anybody have some thoughts on the subject?

I made my own bag for the main and put the jib into the main bag. My main bag is really big, but I like it.

the Hobie deluxe sail bag works great, page 37 of the Hobie catalog, part number 3121, we sell a lot of these and everyone is very very happy!

Even the standard US bag works better these days. The newer ones are bigger, but you always have to roll tighter and insert luff end first to make them fit easier.

As I remember I made it about 3ft around, maybe just a hair less. That is if it is flat the bag would be about 1.25 to 1.5 feet at the drawstring. I like to be able to fit the sail in the bag without too much trouble. This is no trouble and I can roll the sail really loose...which I think it a bit better for the sail.

Later,
