Hello everyone.

This weekend we had some rather heavy weather (25kts wind with 2m seas). We still wanted to go sailing, not sit on the land like everyone else, so being fairly new to the Tiger, we Uni rigged the boat with just the main and no jib.

We set spreaders to 65mm, diamonds to 41, (have combined crew weight of 150kgs) and raked mast forwards slightly more to compensate for the absent jib. Doing this we found the boat to be quite manageable for us, (no capsizes) still carrying some weatherhelm, but still slightly overpowered! We covered 110kms this day.

Has anyone sailed in these conditions (or worse) with Jib/spinnaker and lived to tell the tale?

Do you have any tips/tricks for these conditions?

Also .. Is it important to release the cunningham when tacking or gybing each time? A fellow Tiger sailer said if you do not release the cunningham the mast could get damaged?

Many thanks guys .. have fun out there
Clarence

Dear Friend

what we did here in rome is to reduce main sail area , but we prefer sailing with the jib on for handling purposes.

I suggest you see this post you can find some videos in that conditions

Cunningham tightness should not affect mast rotation.
