Ok who's got the best solution for solo mast raising on a tiger. I've been single handing more and more lately and always struggle to find someone to help raise and lower the mast. Turning 53 this year so that's not helping the situation. No responses to get a smaller boat  . Have a superwinch LT2000 that I was thinking about incorporating somehow.Thanks Steve |

I've got a similar issue for my 21SE... and was thinking the same thing... how could you incorporate a small electric winch to get the mast up solo... Anyone have thoughts? |

Use a rear mast support that holds your mast up about 8', jump on tramp, have someone winch up the mast by the forestay while you only keep the mast centered on the boat. Works great on my H20. Tim

Tim just don't have that "someone" to winch it up. Would like to be able to do it on my own. |

I have the mast stepper III for my Getaway-it works great! I don't know if it will work with the Tiger. Back years ago, I had a H17 and not a lot of money. I made a beach roller from a 35 gallon plastic drum, a sail box from a couple of sheets of plywood, and a mast stepper. A mast stepper is just a gin pole-I made mine from an 8' long 2x4, and used the trapeze wires for stabilizers. I had a cheap winch, and don't think I spend more than $10 on the stepper system. So if you don't want to spend the money on a factory system, with a little ingenuity, you can make your own on the cheap. |

On my tiger and my new F18 if I have to solo raise the mast. Tie the Spin halyard to the Bridle at the joint of the 2. Lift the mast and when it is all the way up take one hand and tighten the halyard. Cleat the halyard and add a knot in case the cleat slips. Step forward and insert the forestay into the bridle connection. Loosen the knot and uncleat and you are done. |

Turning 53 this year so that's not helping the situation. Are you able to hoist the mast up yourself or are you looking for a system that does the raising for you (i.e. a winch system)? If you can lift the mast yourself, the easiest is to use a rear mast crutch to hold the mast at an easy starting angle. Run your halyard through a pulley on the bow tang, then lift the mast, tighten the halyard and cleat it off, then jump down and pin the forestay. This is done even more easily if the boat is off the trailer - you don't have to climb up onto the boat and the mast will start at an even higher angle. If you need a system that raises the mast for you then really the only option is one of the gin pole designs. They seem to work reasonably well, but you will burn a lot of time with the setup and installation. sm |

just bought a tiger and setting it up first time ever for me in the front yard. Yesterday I raised the mast myself (no strain) I'm 56. I used a 5ft ladder (but I'm going to make one of those higher stands from one of my old photography equipment stands. And I used two tie down straps... one on each side from trap line to cross bar. I then wenched it up from trailer hand wench mounted on forward mast pole. only problem, I over tightened the straps and felt they were WAY TO TIGHT - scarred one would snap - but didn't. Now I want to find tie down straps that I can control /tighten/loosen safely while raising to adjust the tension. any one? ideas? |
